Resolution not reported out of committee
"This resolution has been updated to show an increase
in the number of
VSOs that make-up The Military Coalition"
.
Issue: Joining The Military
Coalition to increase our presence before Congress so as to have a more
uniformed voice.
Background: The VVA has approximately
50,000 members, whereas The Military Coalition (TMC) through its 30 member
Veteran Service Organizations (VSO) represents approximately 6,000,000
members. By joining TMC we have effectively increased our voice more
100 times, thereby showing Congress a more united front. There is
strength in numbers, as evidenced by the American Association of Retired
People (AARP) being a driving force on Capital Hill.
The VVA will experience, if it is
not already, declining membership and our voice will diminish. We
need to have a more effective lobbying effort and by increasing our numbers
before Congress we can make progress.
They are not making Vietnam Veterans
anymore, this may be our last chance.
I have been informed by Mr. R. Weidman
that the VVA leadership is looking at this proposal. I have provided
Mr. Weidman with a contact point and he stated to that he has received
information from The Military Coalition.
Just a thought.
Proposed Position: A ??not ad hoc????
committee be established to investigate the pros and cons of joining TMC.
The first report shall be due at the first BoD meeting following the August
‘99 convention with follow up reports presented at all future BoD meetings.
